The turkey order’s in, and I ordered two. We’re going to use the rotisserie. I had pretty eyes at the Halloween party

Welcome to “Turkey Order” on the What’s The Matter With Me? Podcast

In this episode, I put in the turkey order at the butcher shop. This year, we’re having Thanksgiving at the house again, and we’re planning to cook the turkey on the rotisserie. I ordered two smaller birds instead of one big one, and I’m hoping it’ll be more manageable that way. Also in this episode, we went to a Halloween party where my wife made me up like a beautiful woman, but not the one I was expecting. Meanwhile, Christina Applegate was diagnosed with MS, and we read about it in the newspaper.

  • I went to a Halloween costume party
  • collard greens & ham hocks email went out

Remote work and labor shortages have increased the number of disabled workers & experts say it may be permanent.

Welcome to “Disabled Americans Are Going Back To Work” on the What’s The Matter With Me? Podcast

There are plenty of sound effects in this week’s episode, like a xylophone and a noise like, “Fweet!” that we hear while reading through “For Disabled Workers, a Tight Labor Market Opens New Doors” by Ben Casselman in the New York Times to find that changes ushered in by working remotely during the pandemic might have positive effects for the disabled workforce, and these changes could be long-lasting. Also this week, I continue to build stamina and regain my independence, taking some trips with the kids all by myself for the first time since July. *sound effect*

I Contain Multitudes

Song of Myself, 51
Walt Whitman - 1819-1892

The past and present wilt—I have fill'd them, emptied them.
And proceed to fill my next fold of the future.

Listener up there! what have you to confide to me?
Look in my face while I snuff the sidle of evening,
(Talk honestly, no one else hears you, and I stay only a minute longer.)

Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself,
(I am large, I contain multitudes.)

I concentrate toward them that are nigh, I wait on the door-slab.

Who has done his day's work? who will soonest be through with his supper?
Who wishes to walk with me?

Will you speak before I am gone? will you prove already too late?
  • My son is being picked on at school- I have Rise on hold
  • I want him to find support in his own identity

Continuing my transition away from the protracted intense pain of Trigeminal Neuralgia that my successful rhizotomy has brought me. In this episode, I explore Midwestern Concepts such as the work of the artist Marc Fischer and holding a listener appreciation party/convention at a hotel ballroom in Chicago. I think the thing is, it’s centrally located, and I’ve never hung out there.

  • Mega large shout outs to the people who donated to the school fundraiser. the fund rager *angry scream* Thank you for supporting the fundraiser, helping my kids do their part to help pay for unfunded programs at the school. Welcome to What’s The Matter With Me? Podcast, “Body Horror”

Cool episode! I made it through a surgery with all the hallmarks of body horror: zombie anesthesia, facial electricity and a burning nerve. David Cronenberg will be perfect to direct the movie version. Plus, artist Gary Cannone interview preview- Helen Garner on impositions- an awkward dinner party conversation.

Some very dear friends of mine had a three-year-old son who was profoundly autistic. They didn’t know what was wrong with him, and there was no name for it back then. He couldn’t really speak, and he didn’t know any words, but songs would reach him where other things wouldn’t, and he had a pure little voice when he sang. It interested me to see how his parents lived around this huge duty that had been imposed upon them—to see how an act of fate like that would scour you of all your triviality. You’d have to find something in yourself that was much deeper than what most people would need to find.

Fourth of July cover
Going places in my chair- Hit my head again- Barbecue using the tray method- The Pepper Show is back.

Welcome to the What’s The Matter With Me? Podcast, “Fourth of July”

In this episode, we take stock of the busy Fourth of July holiday week that was full of wheelchair rolls, head injuries and new grilling setups. Plus, we got a new Pepper Show!

  • Statistical shout outs to places far and wide and thick and thin where people listen to the show.
  • Have you heard of the disorder where people take s**** in their sleep? Yeah it’s called sleep crapnea.
  • While I was copying that down my wife was like, “You can’t say that, it has swearing in it.” I was like “Yes I can, I’ll bleep it.” And then she was like, “You have to leave the ‘sh’ sound otherwise people won’t know what word it is.” I was like “I can do that!” And then she said, “Would you please turn off the light?” I said, “Would you please let me write down this f****** joke!”
  • July 1- Fell and hit my head on the house, like in the old episode It’s Fall. I ordered replacement tips for my stick from REI
  • July 2- I went to a wedding in my chair, and then I went to the reception in my brace.
  • July 3- I shopped at Urban Ore in my chair. I went to get lunch at the fried chicken sandwich place and the guy who was next in line had me cut in front of him and I accepted. But then I started to feel weird about the people after him.
  • July 4- On the 4th I went to San Jose to my parents’ block party where I rode my wheelchair. My mom told me she was happy I was there and that I was in my chair taking it easy. It wasn’t much of a barbecue- I didn’t have anything that was grilled. We had chile verde
  • July 5- I barbecued a redo of the 4th of July by grilling hot dogs, bratwurst, and corn. A new method using aluminum trays, yielded positive results and the kids gave it positive reviews. For dessert, we had apple pie.
  • I recorded the Pepper Show and the vibe is more or less soft in the head. But at least I did it. I can do a better one next time.
